The brain processes visual information 60,000 faster than text. Then why no keep your mind active by learning throughout your life. A large percentage of online students do it because of the ability to balance work, family, and social responsibilities more easily. Online students love the ability to study anytime, anywhere are their own convenience. The Babson Survey Research Group A reported in 2013 that the number of students taking at least one online course has now surpassed 6 million.
Their biggest motivation to enroll was to advance in their current career.

Recent predictions indicate that over 60% of jobs obtained by 2020 will require post-secondary education. A majority of adults are what we call personal learners who have participated in at least one of a number of possible activities in the past 12 months to advance their knowledge about something that personally interests them. These activities include reading, taking courses or attending meetings or events tied to learning more about their personal interests.

Of those that work, 63% are considered personal learners. They have taken additional training in the past 12 months to improve their expertise and job skills connected to career advancement. Most of these personal learners admitted that they pursue knowledge in an area of personal interest to make their life more interesting and full. Furthermore, 64% said they wanted to learn something so they can help others more effectively. They are willing to take time to study because they have extra time on their hands to pursue their interest.

There are a large percentage of personal learners who want to turn a hobby into something that can generate income. Another 33% said they wanted to learn things that would help them keep up with the schoolwork of their children and grandchildren. Of these personal learners who are willing to study and learn more, they say that their activities help them feel more capable and well rounded. Those who are not compelled to study admitted that learning more help them make new friends and opened up new perspectives about their lives.

Of those personal learners who spent time studying different subjects, 58% say it make them feel more connected to their local community and also that it prompted them to get more involved in volunteer opportunities.
