Art filled Head Start Programs are the New Choice for Preschool

There are many times in life when big decisions are made and the future of a person’s life is affected by those decisions. When parents decide to have a child that is a major life change for them. However, another big decision for parents is whether or not to place their child into preschool. Many factors go into deciding on a preschool program. In several states, the Head Start program is the most commonly chosen program for children to enroll in. When the decision to enroll in preschool is decided upon then the question becomes to what kind of preschool should a child be placed. Times change so frequently and the style of preschool has changed, as well. Now, more than ever, research shows that children learn through play, be that a Head Start or after school program.

Children enjoy learning and because of this, several creative learning preschool designs have been created as an option for parents. Statistics have shown an increase in the number of children entering into preschool Head Start programs. In 2005, the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER) concluded that preschool enrollment equated to over 40% of 3-year-olds and two-thirds of 4-year-olds.

Arts are a major initiative presented in head start programs. Often, recognition for school attendance and academic achievement are found to be three to four times higher in children who study art. Schools often have many popular classes that children enjoy taking, and in Head Start programs among the top are visual arts courses. In fact, 19% of students prefer visual arts classes as the second most popular for preschool and school aged children. The art programs that are offered at many preschool centers allow for children to learn through play, allowing children to grow and prosper.

The options are endless for new parents and preschool options. Art is a major component in creating a bright future for children during their preschool career.
